(11) To purchase or otherwise acquire such land, facilities, equipment or services
as are deemed essential for the needs of the Department or its employees in
carrying out their duties, in the manner prescribed by law;
(12) To sell or dispose of land, facilities or equipment as such become
unnecessary or unfit for further use, in the manner prescribed by law;
(13) To establish and modify systems for the reception, processing, and
maintenance of reports and records of occurrences or alleged occurrences of crime
and motor vehicle accidents within the State, and of the administration,
management, and operations of the Department; and to establish procedures, not
inconsistent with law, for the safekeeping, copying, and destruction of
departmental records; and
(14) To suspend, amend, rescind, abrogate or cancel any rule adopted by him or
by any former Superintendent.
(15) To grant permission to off-duty State police officers to use police vehicles
during off-duty hours, provided however, that only the officers to whom permission
has been granted may operate the vehicles, and provided that the vehicles, in the
opinion of the Superintendent, will not be needed by [[on off-duty]] ON-DUTY
officers.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 37(a) and 37(x) of
Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume and
1972 Supplement), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and Duties," to
correct certain errors in the laws relating to Sheriffs in Allegany County and
Baltimore City.
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 37(a) and 37(x) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume and 1972 Supplement), title "Sheriffs,"
subtitle "Compensation and Duties," are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
37.
(a) Until the beginning of the term of the Sheriff of Allegany County elected to
that position in the month of November, 1970, he shall receive an annual salary of
not less than $5,400, as fixed by the County Commissioners from time to time,
and an annual allowance of $2,400 for expenses. From and after the beginning of
the term of the Sheriff elected in the month of November, 1970, he shall receive an
annual salary of not less than $7,800, as fixed by the County Commissioners fro m
time to time, and an expense allowance of $1,200 annually, the disbursement of
which shall be accounted for to the County Commissioners.
