NOTWITHSTANDING ANY PROVISION OF A SELF-FUNDED GROUP
INSURANCE PLAN FORMED BY ANY ORDER, SOCIETY OR
ASSOCIATION WHICH HAS A MAIN OFFICE LOCATED IN THE STATE
OR WHICH IS INCORPORATED IN THE STATE, OR COVERS PERSONS
WHO RESIDE OR WORK WITHIN THE STATE, NO SUCH PLAN
PROVIDING FOR REIMBURSEMENT FOR ANY SERVICE WHICH IS
WITHIN THE LAWFUL SCOPE OF PRACTICE OF A PHYSICIAN OR
PHYSICIANS, A DENTIST OR DENTISTS, AND/OR A PODIATRIST OR
PODIATRISTS, MAY PROHIBIT ANY PERSON COVERED BY SUCH
PLAN FROM OBTAINING REIMBURSEMENT FOR SUCH SERVICE
WHETHER THE SERVICE IS PERFORMED BY A DOCTOR OF
MEDICINE, A DENTIST, OR A PODIATRIST. THE PROVISIONS OF
THIS SECTION SHALL APPLY TO ALL SUCH PLANS, ISSUED,
RENEWED, MODIFIED, ALTERED, AMENDED, REVISED, OR
REISSUED ON OR AFTER JULY 1, 1972.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37(k) of Article 87 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume and 1972
Supplement), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and Duties," to provide
in Garrett County for the employment of certain deputies.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 37(k) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume and 1972 Supplement), title "Sheriffs,"
subtitle "Compensation and Duties," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

37.

(k) The Sheriff of Garrett County shall receive an annual salary of not less than
seven thousand dollars ($7,000) on and after January 1, 1971, and a sum as may
be set from time to time in the discretion of the County Commissioners, for
expenses. He shall [appoint] EMPLOY not more than eight deputies, with the
approval of the County Commissioners, each of whom shall receive an annual
salary of not less than five thousand two hundred dollars ($5,200) and one of
whom shall act as warden of the jail. The deputy sheriffs shall perform all the
duties heretofore performed by the constables of the trial magistrates' courts of
Garrett County. The Sheriff, in his discretion may [appoint] EMPLOY additional
special deputies whose compensation shall be approved by the County
Commissioners. The Sheriff and the deputy sheriffs shall be allowed extra car
mileage and out-of-county mileage at the rate of fourteen cents ($.14) per mile.
This mileage allowance shall not be payable if the Sheriffs office is furnished with
automobiles. The Sheriff shall be allowed compensation necessary for the boarding
of prisoners committed to the county jail, to be paid monthly upon vouchers
