may be used for these payments provided that the
County Council authorizes such use of lapsed salary
monies by resolution. This option must be exercised
within thirty (30) days of the effective date of this
article.
(n) Use of sick leave for obtaining credited
service. Any employee whose retirement is effective
on or after May 1, 1970 will have his accumulated sick
leave credited for retirement purposes. Each one
hundred and seventy—six (176) hours of accumulated
sick leave will be considered as being the equivalent
of one (1) month of creditable service for retirement
purposes and up to four thousand two hundred
twenty—four (4,224) hours of sick leave shall he
creditable for retirement purposes and it may be used
by a member to accelerate his normal retirement date.
Accumulated sick leave of less than eleven (11) days
shall not be creditable for retirement purposes.
Accumulated sick leave in the amount of eleven (11) to
twenty—two (22) days shall be creditable as one month
of credited service for retirement purposes.
Any employee who vests on or after October 1,
1971 may have his sick leave credited for vesting
purposes on the same basis provided for retirement
purposes.
(o) Credited service for period of sick leave
without pay. Any member who is granted authorized
sick leave without pay on a full-time or less than
full—time basis shall have the opportunity to obtain
credited service up to one year for such period of
authorized leave without pay for reasons of health
granted on or after April 1, 1970. The same rule
shall apply to any member granted sick leave without
pay in lieu of disability leave without pay. Before
receiving this credited service, such member shall be
required to pay both the member contributions and the
County contributions on a current basis during the
period of time he is on full—time or less than
full—time sick leave without pay, if he wishes such
credited service. There shall be no County
contributions towards the purchase of such service for
any part of such unpaid service.
(p) Transfers to County retirement system. Any
person who has not attained his sixtieth (60) birthday
and who is a member of the Employees' Retirement
