participating as a member of this retirement system,
(2) Credited past service means service
credited to a member under the Employees' Retirement
System of the State of Maryland or the Montgomery
County Police Relief and Retirement. Fund Law. A
member will not receive credited past service unless
he elects to become a member of this retirement system
on or before December 31, 1966 and, if required by the
County Personnel Board, files an acceptable statement
of all service with the County before his date of
membership for which he claims credit.
Notwithstanding the above provisions, any member who
was a former member of the Police Relief and
Retirement Fund of Montgomery County and upon
discontinuance of coverage under such retirement
system before August 15, 1955 was unable to receive
the return of his employee contributions because of
the provisions of this law, shall be entitled to
receive credited service for that service covered by
such employee contributions.
(3) Credited past service for service as a
fire alarm dispatcher or fireman in Montgomery County.
Any member shall have the opportunity to obtain
credited service for any period of full-time paid
service as a fire alarm dispatcher or fireman in a
Montgomery County fire department (including the
Takoma Park Fire Department), or a rescue squadsman in
a Montgomery County rescue squad not otherwise
credited under the Employees' Retirement System of
Montgomery County. Before receiving this credited
service such member shall pay or cause to be paid into
the Employees' Retirement System of Montgomery County
that amount of money determined as necessary by the
County Personnel Board on the basis of an actuarial
study to purchase in full this credited service. If
the County Personnel Board approves the payment of
contributions and interest on an extended payment
basis, interest of not less than six and one-half
percent (6 1/2%) per annum shall be charged.
Notwithstanding the above provision, a fire alarm
dispatcher who was the incumbent of a fire alarm
dispatcher position brought into the County service
prior to August 15, 1965 shall be credited with prior
service credits for the full period of time he served
in such position or as a fire fighter in the same fire
department, if such service was continuous.
(i) Credited service for prior military service.
