to change the effective date for increased
benefits for police and fire officers.
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MARYLAND, That Sections
14-300(11) (a) and (b) and 14-302 (a)(1) and (2) of the
Anne Arundel County Code (1967 Edition and
Supplements), Title 14, "Police," Subtitle 3, "Police
and Fire Service Retirement," be, and they are hereby
repealed and re—enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
Section 14-300.
(11) (a) If he was hired on or after January 1,
[1960] 1962, the employee's normal retirement date
shall be the first day of the month coinciding with or
next following his fifty—fifth birthday.
(b) If he was hired prior to January 1,
[1960] 1962, the employee's normal retirement date
shall be the first day of the month coinciding with or
next following the fiftieth birthday.
Section 14-302.
(a) (1) If the participant was hired on or after
January 1, [1960] 1962, his normal retirement pension
shall be an amount equal to two per cent of his final
earnings for each year of faithful service which is
not in excess of twenty-five years, plus an additional
one per cent of such final earnings for each year of
faithful service after the first twenty—five years;
provided that the total years shall not exceed
thirty-five or sixty per cent of final earnings.
(2) If the participant was hired prior to
January 1, [1960] 1962, and has performed at least
twenty years of faithful service, his normal
retirement pension shall be an amount equal to fifty
per cent of his final earnings, plus an additional two
per cent of such final earnings for each year of
faithful service after twenty years; provided, that
the total years shall not exceed thirty or seventy per
cent of final earnings.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this
Ordinance shall take effect forty—five (45) days from
