2090                                 MUNICIPAL CHARTERS

BRENTWOOD

(Prince George's County)
Charter Amendment No. 72-1

A RESOLUTION AND ORDINANCE to repeal and re-enact, with
amendments, Section 6-14 of the Code of Public Laws of Prince George's
County, Maryland, (1963 Edition) titled, "Brentwood," and subtitled, "Officers;
appointment, duties," being a part of the Charter of the Town of Brentwood,
Maryland, and changing the Section 6-14(a) providing that the office of Chief of
Police and any subsidiary police force thereunder shall exist solely at the discretion
of the Mayor with the approval of the majority of the Town Council.

SECTION 1. BE IT RESOLVED, ENACTED AND ORDAINED by the

Mayor and Town Council of Brentwood, Maryland, that Section 6-14 of the Code
of Public Laws of Prince George's County, Maryland, (1963 Edition), titled,
"Brentwood," and subtitled, "Officers; appointment, duties," being a part of the
Charter of the Town of Brentwood, Maryland, be and the same is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

6-14.

(a) Appointments, compensation. The Mayor with the approval of the majority
of the Town Council shall appoint a Clerk, [a Chief of Police] and a Health
Officer, AND FURTHER, THE MAYOR WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE
MAJORITY OF THE TOWN COUNCIL MAY, IN THEIR SOLE
DISCRETION, APPOINT A CHIEF OF POLICE, [who] ALL OF SAID
OFFICERS shall hold office for the one year or until their successors are
appointed to qualify. The Clerk, Chief of Police, and Health Officer shall each
with the approval of the Mayor and Town Council, appoint such assistant or
assistants as the Council may allow and shall be responsible for the enforcement of
such ordinances, policies, or directives as the Mayor and Town Council may
prescribe. The Council shall fix the compensation of each and all of the
subordinates under them, and shall prescribe their duties except as otherwise herein
provided.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, ENACTED AND ORDAINED by the Mayor
and Town Council of Brentwood, Maryland, that any section or sections of the
Charter of the Town of Brentwood, Maryland, which are inconsistent with the
above enacted section, be and the same are hereby repealed.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, ENACTED AND ORDAINED by the

Mayor and Town Council of Brentwood, Maryland, that the aforegoing proposed
amendment shall be posted in the Town Hall for a period of at least forty (40)
days following its adoption, and shall further be published in the Prince George's
