(House Bill 133)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 1-102, 1-104 and
1-173 of Article 66-1/2 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970 Replacement
Volume), title "Vehicle Laws," subtitle "Subtitle 1 Words and Phrases
Defined," to amend the definitions of bicycle and resident under the vehicle laws
of this State, and to correct an error in the definition of alley under said laws.
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 1-102, 1-104 and 1-173 of Article 66-1/2 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1970 Replacement Volume), title "Vehicle Laws,"
subtitle "Subtitle 1 Words and Phrases Defined," be and they are hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
1-102. Alley.
A street or highway intended to provide access to the rear or side of lots or
buildings in urban districts and not intended for [one] THE purpose of through
vehicular traffic.
1-104. Bicycle.
Bicycle means every device propelled by human power upon which any person
may ride, having two tandem wheels EITHER OF WHICH IS MORE THAN 14
INCHES IN DIAMETER.
1-173. Resident.
Resident means (1) every person who is a legal resident of this State, and every
nonresident (owner, corporation, manufacturer, dealer, used car dealer) owning,
maintaining, or operating place or places of business in this State and using motor
vehicles intrastate in connection with such business in this State;
(2) Any nonresident who maintains a temporary residence in this State and
accepts any employment or engages in any trade, profession or occupation in this
State; and
(3) Any nonresident who maintains a temporary or seasonal residence in this
State in excess of 120 CUMULATIVE days during the registration year.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.
