vital concerns; and
WHEREAS, It is not always easy to ascertain which of these bodies are
currently performing useful work, to obtain the benefits of their activities, or to
determine how they fit into the fiscal and other State programs of interest to the
General Assembly; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That it
respectfully requests the Governor to report annually to it on the status of each
board, committee, commission or other unit established by gubernatorial action
such as executive order or executive letter, advising the General Assembly of the
activities of each unit during the preceding year, the expenditures made by it or in
its behalf, the number and composition of its staff, and the location of its office, if
any, and giving the Governor's views as to whether the particular unit should be
retained during the subsequent year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Governor is requested to deliver this report to the
General Assembly of Maryland concurrently with the Governor's annual "State of
the State" address.

(House Joint Resolution 36)
House Joint Resolution expressing legislative intent that St. Mary's City
Commission acquire a tract of approximately 1200 acres, being within its
approved take-line.
WHEREAS, The 1966 Session of the General Assembly created the St. Mary's
City Commission for the purposes of preserving, developing, and maintaining
historic St. Mary's City, with powers and duties to acquire historic, aesthetic, or
cultural properties pertaining in any way to historic St. Mary's City and environs
and to acquire and hold real property of such significance, including the power and
duty to acquire property in the vicinity of this property if deemed necessary for the
proper use and administration of historic St. Mary's City and its environs.
The St. Mary's City Commission, with the assistance of professional planners
and historic park technicians, has prepared a master plan for the preservation and
development of Maryland's first capital.
The Legislative Council on July 24th and 25th, 1969, visited and inspected St.
Mary's City and was briefed on its master plan, and the Legislative Council
immediately thereafter recommended legislation placing the St. Mary's City
historic park in the Program Open Space and said legislation was duly enacted by
the General Assembly in 1970.
The General Assembly has appropriated the sum of $1,083,500.00 and the
Federal Government, in grants, has provided $804,002.00 for the acquisition of
open space by the St. Mary's City Commission.
The St. Mary's City Commission has established the boundaries of the historic
town-land of St. Mary's City and has laid out and approved on August 6, 1971, a
