1866                                       JOINT RESOLUTIONS

No. 34
(Senate Joint Resolution 18)

SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION [[OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND]] congratulating the University of Baltimore[[,]] School of
Law [[,]] for its acceptance into the membership rolls of accredited law schools
by the American Bar Association.

WHEREAS, [[Since the]] The School of Law was first opened with the
founding of the University of Baltimore in 1925; and

WHEREAS, It conducted only a part time evening division until the
establishment of a full time day division in 1969; and

WHEREAS, The Mount Vernon School of Law of Eastern College was
established in 1935; and

WHEREAS, Effective September 1, 1970, the Mount Vernon School of Law
was merged with the University of Baltimore School of Law with amalgamation of
faculties, library facilities and other assets; and

WHEREAS, The alumni, administration, faculty, students, and friends of the
University of Baltimore have endeavored to establish the School of Law as a
paragon of excellence in legal education; and

WHEREAS, Despite the hardships of limited financial assistance the University
of Baltimore has graduated many learned and illustrious members of the legal
[[professions]] profession who have contributed their talents for the benefit of the
State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, The University of Baltimore [[,]] School of Law has risen from
its humble origin to become one of the State's leading centers of legal education
and has recently become accredited by the American Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, The University of Baltimore [[,]] School of Law is anticipating that
its services and physical plant [[to]] could further accomodate the legal profession
and taxpayers of Maryland; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
alumni, administration, faculty, students, and friends of the University of
Baltimore [[,]] School of Law be congratulated upon this milestone of academic
excellence; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent by the Secretary of State
under the Great Seal of the State of Maryland to The Honorable H. Mebane
Turner, President, University of Baltimore, 1420 N. Charles Street, Baltimore,
Maryland 21201 for distribution to friends of the University of Baltimore[[,]]
School of Law.
