1850                                      JOINT RESOLUTIONS

No. 18
(House Joint Resolution 1)

House Joint Resolution expressing the deep regrets of the General Assembly of
Maryland over the passing of Dr. Nelson B. Lasson.

The members of the General Assembly of Maryland express their sympathies
and deep regrets over the passing of Dr. Nelson B. Lasson of Baltimore City.

Dr. Lasson was a College Professor, an Attorney, an Author, and a Publisher.
He passed away on May 9, 1972, at the age of 63 years.

He and his brother, H. Milton Lasson, were co-owners of the Boone Press and
Guide newspapers.

He graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1927 and from the University
of Maryland Law School in 1931. His work at Johns Hopkins included a
Doctorate in Political Science.

During his career he served as a member of the Board of Ner Israel Rabbinical
College, the Talmudical Academy and Shearith Israel Congregation.

Dr. Lasson's academic ability was of the highest order. During his educational
period, he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the honorary academic society, and also
to The Order of The Coif, the honorary law society. In addition, he had a high
standard of operating principles. Thus, in publishing the Guide Newspaper, he
frequently stated his belief that the value of truth is always greater than the value
of lies or cynicism.

Also, he always championed the right of all human beings and by so doing
contributed to the social, religious, and economic betterment of the lives of his
fellowmen.

In the passing of Dr. Nelson B. Lasson, the City of Baltimore and the entire
State of Maryland have lost an outstanding citizen, well known for his ability,
integrity, and sense of human justice. The members of the General Assembly of
Maryland on behalf of all the citizens of this State express their regrets and
sympathies over his passing; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
sincere condolences of every member of the General Assembly and of all the
citizens of the State of Maryland are expressed over the passing of Dr. Nelson B.
Lasson of Baltimore City; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State of Maryland is requested to send
copies of this Resolution to the family of the late Dr. Lasson.

Approved May 7, 1973.
