AN ACT to repeal Section 20 of Article 51 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1972 Replacement Volume), title "Juries"; and to add new Section 703 1/2 to
Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume),
title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "Places of Reformation and
Punishment," to follow immediately after Section 703 thereof; providing for
grand juries to visit and inspect the county jails.
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 20 of Article 51 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1972 Replacement Volume), title "Juries," be and it is hereby repealed:

The grand jury shall at each term of the court visit the jail and inquire into its
condition, the manner in which it is kept and the treatment of the prisoners, and
report the same to the court.]
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That new Section 703 1/2
be and it is hereby added to Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971
Replacement Volume), title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "Places of
Reformation and Punishment," to follow immediately after Section 703 thereof
and to read as follows:
703 1/2.
THE GRAND JURY SHALL AT EACH TERM OF THE COURT VISIT
THE JAIL AND INQUIRE INTO ITS CONDITION, THE MANNER IN
WHICH IT IS KEPT AND THE TREATMENT OF THE PRISONERS, AND
REPORT THE SAME TO THE COURT.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.

AN ACT to repeal Section 3 of Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1966 Replacement Volume), title "Courts," subtitle "General Provisions," to
eliminate an obsolete provision of law.
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 3 of Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1966 Replacement Volume), title "Courts," subtitle "General Provisions," be and
it is hereby repealed:
