Ch. 694                            MARVIN MANDEL, Governor                                  1449

1973, the Board of Trustees of the University of Baltimore by resolution regularly
adopted, notifies the [[Governor of Maryland]] Board of Trustees of the State
colleges of its general acquiesence of the purposes and provisions of this Act.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.

(Senate Bill 596)

AN ACT to add new Sections 809-816, inclusive, to Article 43 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and 1972 Supplement), title
"Health," to follow immediately after Section 808 thereof, and to be under the
new subtitle "Commission On Hereditary Disorders," to provide for the
establishment of a Commission on Hereditary Disorders, and to repeal
immediately Section 33A of the same Article, Code and title, subtitle
"Miscellaneous Provisions," and Section 6A of Article 62 of the same Code
(1972 Replacement Volume and 1972 Supplement), title "Marriages," which
relate to sickle cell anemia [[, and to repeal Section 38A of Article 43 of said
Code (1971 Replacement Volume), title "Health," subtitle "Miscellaneous
Provisions," to be effective July 1,1975]].

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Sections 809-816, inclusive, be and they are hereby
added to Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement
Volume and 1972 Supplement), title "Health," and to be under the new subtitle
"Commission on Hereditary Disorders"; that Section 33A of the same Article,
Code and title, subtitle "Miscellaneous Provisions," and Section 6A of Article 62
of the same Code (1972 Replacement Volume and 1972 Supplement), title
"Marriages," be and they are hereby repealed immediately [[; and that Section
38A of Article 43 of said Code (1971 Replacement Volume), title "Health,"
subtitle "Miscellaneous Provisions," be and it is hereby repealed to be effective
July 1, 1975, and all to read as follows]]:

COMMISSION ON HEREDITARY DISORDERS

809.

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY HEREBY FINDS AND DECLARES:

(A)   THAT EACH PERSON IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND IS
ENTITLED TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF HEALTH CARE ATTAINABLE,
AND TO PROTECTION FROM INADEQUATE HEALTH SERVICES NOT
IN THE PERSON'S BEST INTEREST;

(B)    THAT HEREDITARY DISORDERS ARE OFTEN COSTLY,
TRAGIC, AND SOMETIMES DEADLY BURDENS TO THE HEALTH AND
WELL-BEING OF THE CITIZENS OF MARYLAND;
