18.

(h)(i) Any person who for a period of one year has been employed continuously
(including any period during which he OR SHE was not so employed due to no
fault of his own) by the State Roads Commission as a maintenance [man]
PERSON, or on roadside beautification work, or a member of the State Roads
Commission weighing crews, may apply to the Secretary of Personnel for
classification as a highway maintenance [man] PERSON.

(ii) If the applicant satisfies the Secretary of Personnel (1) that he OR SHE has
been continuously employed in maintaining State roads and/or county roads, or on
roadside beautification work, under State supervision during the preceding one
year (including any period during which he OR SHE was not so employed due to
no fault of his own) and (2) that he is qualified as a highway maintenance [man]
PERSON, then the Secretary of Personnel shall certify the name of the applicant
to the State Roads Commission as eligible for appointment as a highway
maintenance [man] PERSON, and any [man] PERSON so appointed shall
become a part of the classified service.

(iii) All persons employed by the State Roads Commission in the classification
of "highway maintenance [man] PERSON," as of June 1, 1961 shall become part
of the classified service without further examination.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.

CHAPTER 673
(Senate Bill 284)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 502(a) of Article 93A
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume and 1972
Supplement), title "Protection of Minors and Other Persons Under Disability,"
subtitle "Miscellaneous Provisions Relating to Minors," to provide that
conveyances of real estate by married minors I [who have attained the age of
sixteen years 11 be applicable to both sexes and whose spouses have reached the
age of majority.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 502(a) of Article 93A of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume and 1972 Supplement), title "Protection of
Minors and Other Persons Under Disability," subtitle "Miscellaneous Provisions
Relating to Minors," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

502.

(a) Any married [female] MINOR [[who has attained the age of sixteen years
and]] who holds title to property with [her husband] A SPOUSE WHO HAS
REACHED THE AGE OF MAJORITY as tenants by the entireties is hereby
authorized to join with [her husband] THE SPOUSE in an instrument of
conveyancing, either a deed, deed of trust, deed of trust note and financing
statement, mortgage, in the same manner, to the same extent and with the same
