CHAPTER 288
(House Bill 495)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 17 of
Article 95 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, (1969 Replacement
Volume), title "Treasurer," to modify the method of destruction
of all State of Maryland bonds and coupons that are redeemed
and paid by the State fiscal agent and to correct a certain error in
language therein.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 17 of Article 95 of the Annotated Code of Maryland,
(1969 Replacement Volume), title "Treasurer," be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

17.

The Treasurer of the State shall count, examine, and record all
State of Maryland bonds and coupons that have been or may hereafter
be redeemed and paid by the State fiscal agent and returned by him
to the treasury. Biennially the Comptroller and the Treasurer, or
their deputies, shall after verification by the Legislative Auditor, and
in the presence of the Legislative Auditor or his assistants, [cremate
or burn] destroy all of said bonds and coupons which have been
returned up to the close of the last preceding fiscal year. The Treas-
urer of the State may, at his discretion, require the State fiscal agent
to render an accounting of all State of Maryland bonds and coupons
redeemed and paid by him, certifying that such bonds and coupons
were [cremated] destroyed by a method satisfactory to the Treas-
urer.
Appropriate [cremation] certificates of destruction, attested
to by the State fiscal agent or by the State Treasurer, the State
Comptroller and the Legislative Auditor, showing [he] the amount
of bonds and coupons so destroyed, shall be entered on the records
of the State Treasurer, and copies shall be filed with the presiding
officers of the two houses of the General Assembly.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.

CHAPTER 289
(House Bill 504)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40(d) of
Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Replacement
Volume and 1971 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law and Attor-
neys in Fact," subtitle "State's Attorney," amending the laws con-
cerning the salary of the State's Attorney of Baltimore County, the
number of deputy and assistant State's attorneys in Baltimore
County, and generally relating to their appointment, salaries and
duties.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40(d) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
