State Fire Marshal, his designee, or a court of competent jurisdiction,
as the case may be, shall issue such orders as may be appropriate
to protect the confidentiality of trade secrets.

(4) For the purposes of paragraph (3) above, trade secrets shall
mean any confidential formula, pattern, device or compilation of in-
formation which is used in the employer's business and which gives
him an opportunity to obtain an advantage over competitors who do
not know or use it It is known only to the employer and those em-
ployees to whom it is necessary to confide it.

(5) It shall be unlawful for any individual, including but not
limited to employees of the State Fire Marshal, from giving prior
notice of any inspection as authorized by this subtitle, without the
written approval of the State Fire Marshal or his designee.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.

CHAPTER 253
(Senate Bill 939)

AN ACT to waive the provisions of Section 10 of Chapter 101 of the
Acts of 1970 and of other laws relating to the time by which proj-
ects included in Item 17.01.00.01 of Section 1 of Chapter 100 of the
Acts of 1970, "Board of Public Works — Capital Appropriation,"
(said Item designation also being known as 11-23.05.02.71) must
be placed under contract, insofar as they relate to the following
projects included in said item: Project number 1.01, University
of Maryland, College Park, planning and preparation of detailed
plans and specifications for a State Board of Agriculture Labora-
tory Building, including air conditioning; and project number
1.04, University of Maryland, College Park, planning and prepara-
tion of detailed plans and specifications for renovation of Morrill
Hall, including air conditioning; to provide that the funds appro-
priated for project number 1.04, upon approval of the Board of
Public Works, may be used for construction of an addition to
the Chemical Engineering Building at College Park, and generally
relating thereto.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the provisions of Section 10 of Chapter 101 of the Acts of 1970
and of any other law imposing a time for placing under contract
projects included in Item 17.01.00.01 of Section 1 of Chapter 100
of the Acts of 1970, "Board of Public Works — Capital Appropria-
tion," (said Item designation also being known as 11-23.05.02.71)
as found on page 286 of the Laws of 1970, be and they are hereby
waived insofar as they impose a time limit for placing under con-
tract the following projects contained in said Item: Project number
1.01, which appears and is described on page 935 of the Maryland
State Budget for the Fiscal Year ending June 30, 1971 under "Board
of Public Works — Capital Appropriation," University of Maryland,
College Park, planning and preparation of detailed plans and specifi-
