AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37(a) of
Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Supplement),
title "Public Education," subtitle "Chapter 4. County Boards of
Education," to provide an annual expense allowance of a certain
amount to members of the Calvert County Board of Education.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37(a) of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1971 Supplement), title "Public Education," subtitle "Chapter 4.
County Boards of Education," be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
37.
(a) The county boards of education shall hold an annual meeting
each year on the second Tuesday in July, or as near as possible thereto
in July, except that in Montgomery County such annual meeting shall
be held on or before the tenth day of January in each year. At this
meeting the board shall elect one of its members to serve as president
and one to serve as vice-president. Other meetings shall be held as the
duties and business of the board may require. The members of the
county boards of education shall receive neither salary nor compensa-
tion, but each member shall receive reimbursement for traveling and
other expenses incident to attending the meetings and transacting
the business of the boards. In Calvert County each member of the
Board of Education shall receive the sum of five hundred dollars
($500.00) annually for traveling and other expenses. In Cecil County
each member of the Board of Education shall receive $600.00 an-
nually for traveling and other expenses. In Kent County each mem-
ber of the Board of Education shall receive the sum of six hundred
dollars ($600.00) annually for traveling and other expenses. In Gar-
rett County each member of the Board of Education shall receive
the sum of two hundred ($200) annually for traveling and other
expenses. In Charles County the chairman of the Board of Education
shall receive the sum of eight hundred dollars ($800.00) annually for
traveling and other expenses, and the members of the Board of
Education shall receive the sum of six hundred ($600.00) annually
for traveling and other expenses.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.
