CHAPTER 111

(Senate Bill 729)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 6-102
of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970 Replace-
ment Volume and 1971 Supplement), title "Vehicle Laws," sub-
title "Drivers' Licenses," subheading "Part I. Issuance of Licenses,
Expiration and Renewal," to exempt any member of the United
States Congress (except members elected from the State of Mary-
land) from obtaining a valid driver's license while establishing a
residence in this State.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 6-102 of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1970 Replacement Volume and 1971 Supplement), title "Ve-
hicle Laws," subtitle "Drivers' Licenses," subheading "Part I. Issu-
ance of Licenses, Expiration and Renewal," be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

6-102. What persons are exempt from license.

(a)   Officers and employees of the United States are exempt from
the licensing requirements of this subtitle while driving on official
business a motor vehicle which is owned by or leased to the United
States.

(b)  Any member of the United States Congress (except members
elected from the State of Maryland) who shall make this State his
residence during his term of office in the United States Congress.

[(b)] (c) Any person while driving or operating any road machine,
farm tractor or implement of husbandry temporarily operated or
moved on a highway of this State.

[(c)] (d) Any nonresident of this State, provided that:

1.    He has in his possession a valid license to drive, issued to
him by the state or country of his domicile;

2.    The license referred to in paragraph 1 allows him to drive in
the state or country of his domicile vehicles of the class he is
driving in this State; and providing he meets the following age
requirements:

(i) He must be at least 18 years of age to drive a vehicle for
which a Class A license would be required if the vehicle were driven
in this State by a resident;

(ii) He must be at least 16 years old to drive a vehicle for which
a Class B license would be required if the vehicle were driven in
this State by a resident;

(iii) He must be at least 18 years old to drive a vehicle for which
a Class C license would be required if the vehicle were driven in
this State by a resident;

(iv) He must be at least 16 years old to drive a vehicle for which
a Class D license would be required if the vehicle were driven in
this State by a resident;
