A BILL ENTITLED
An Act to repeal Section 24-9 titled "Stealing Dog" of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Prince George's County, 1963 Edition (being
Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), subtitle
24, titled "Dogs"; and to amend in part only Chapter 3, titled "Ani-
mals and Fowls" of the Prince George's County Code of Ordinances
and Resolutions, 1967 Edition, by adding a new Article V thereto
titled "Larceny—Dogs or Pets" so as to provide that dogs and other
domesticated animals or pets kept for pleasure shall be deemed per-
sonal property, the subject of larceny and prescribing the penalty
for their larceny.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the County Council of Prince George's
County, Maryland, that Section 24-9 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Prince George's County, 1963 Edition, (being Article 17 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland) is hereby repealed, as follows:
"[24-9. Stealing dog.
If any person shall steal, entice or carry away any dog whose owner
shall have complied with the provisions of this subtitle of this Article,
every such person shall be deemed guilty of larceny, and upon prosecution
and conviction thereof by any tribunal, now or hereafter to be authorized
by law to try such offense, shall be fined a sum equal to the value of such
dog, such sum to go to the owner of such dog so stolen, enticed or carried
away; and in addition thereto, shall suffer imprisonment in the county
jail for not less than one or more than six months, in the discretion of
the Court or other tribunal trying such case.]"
Section 2. Be it further enacted that Chapter 3, titled "Animals and
Fowls," of the Prince George's County Code of Ordinances and Resolu-
tions, 1967 Edition, is amended in part only by the addition of a new
article, numbered and titled as follows:
