Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 675 of Article 1 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Allegany County (1963 Edition,
being Article 1 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title
"Allegany County," subtitle "Witnesses," be and it is hereby repealed.

Persons living within the corporate limits of the City of Cumber-
land who shall be summoned before any justice of the peace for any
of the elections districts of said county lying wholly or in part
within the limits of said city, to testify in any criminal proceeding
pending before said justices, or who shall voluntarily appear without
being summoned, shall not be allowed or receive any compensation
for such attendance.]
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.

CHAPTER 66
(House Bill 891)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37(j) of
Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Supplement),
title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and Duties," amending
the laws concerning the appointment, duties, and powers of
temporary additional deputy sheriffs in Frederick County and
relating to the powers of the Sheriff and the Board of County
Commissioners.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37(j) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1971 Supplement), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and
Duties," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:
37.
(j) The Sheriff of Frederick County shall receive an annual
salary of $10,000 in addition to lodging furnished him and his family.
He shall appoint such deputies as may be necessary who shall each
receive not less than $2,400 per year, and as many jail wardens as
may be necessary, at an annual salary of not less than $1,320 each.
[The Sheriff may appoint such additional special deputies as he may
deem necessary, with the approval of the County Commissioners,
as to compensation.] The Sheriff also may appoint temporarily addi-
tional deputy sheriffs as he deems necessary for the public safety,
with the approval of the Board of County Commissioners; the County
Commissioners shall allow reasonable compensation for the tern-
