(2)    "ASTM" means the American Society for Testing and
Materials.

(3)    "AS BUILT PLANS" MEANS PLANS WHICH ARE
DRAWN TO THE SAME SCALE AS THE APPROVED PLAN, AND
WHICH:

(i) SHOW THAT THE LOCATION, DIMENSIONS, ELEVA-
TIONS, AND STATUS OF THE RESULTING GRADING, DRAIN-
AGE STRUCTURES, AND/OR DRAINAGE SYSTEMS AND
EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL PRACTICES (INCLUD-
ING VEGETATIVE MEASURES) ARE IN SUBSTANTIAL CON-
FORMANCE WITH THE PREVIOUSLY APPROVED DETAILED
DEVELOPMENT PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS; AND

(ii) NOTE ALL DEVIATIONS FROM THE APPROVED
PLANS ON THE "AS BUILT" PLAN. (DATA REQUIRED TO
SHOW SUCH DEVIATIONS AND TO SUPPORT CERTIFICA-
TIONS SUCH AS MEASUREMENTS, ROD READINGS, ELEVA-
TIONS, COMPUTATIONS, AND NOTES ON FIELD OBSERVA-
TIONS MAY BE RECORDED ("RED LINED") DIRECTLY ON
THE APPROVED PLAN.)

(4)     "Bench Terrace" means an area having less than a two
percent (2%) grade, constructed on sloping land to planned dimen-
sions and grades. Bench terraces shall be applied along the contour
with the length and width controlled by the natural terrain and the
required erosion limitations.

(5)     "Bedrock" means the solid undisturbed rock in-place (either
at the ground surface or beneath superficial soil deposits).

(6)    "Certification" means a signed, written statement that
specific constructions, inspections or tests (where required) have been
performed, and that they comply with the applicable requirements of
this Subtitle.

(7)    "Compaction" means densification of a soil or rock fill by
mechanical or other acceptable procedures.

(8)     "Cut"—See "Excavation".

(9)    "Diversion" means a channel, ditch or ridge constructed
across a slope which intercepts and diverts surface runoff.

(10)     " Drainage way "—See "Watercourse".

(11)     "Embankment"—See "Fill".

(12)     "Erosion" means the process by which the ground surface
is worn away by the action of wind or water.

(13)    "Engineer"—See "Professional Engineer".

(14)     "Excavation" or "Cut" means any act (or the conditions
resulting therefrom) by which soil or rock is cut into, dug, quarried,
uncovered, removed, displaced or relocated.
