Marvin Mandel, Governor                       1907

Whereas, For all its natural resources, tobacco is still king in
Calvert County, where over 300 years of cultivation in ideal soil
have resulted in the perfection of a type of tobacco with unique and
superior qualities; and

Whereas, In keeping with its history and tradition, the people
of Calvert County have chosen to adopt as their standard, a flag of
yellow and black-yellow being the official color of the County and
black the color symbolizing Lord Baltimore — with the green leaf
of the tobacco plant superimposed in its center; it being the original
design of Mrs. Robert Coffin, assisted by Mrs. Stuart Vaughn and
Captain A. G. W. McFadden; and

Whereas, It is fitting that the State's legislative and executive
bodies express their approval and recognition of the County's chosen
emblem; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That this Body
approves of the flag chosen to represent Calvert County; and, be it
further

Resolved, That the Governor of Maryland be requested to issue a
proclamation recognizing its adoption as the official flag of Calvert
County; and, be it further

Resolved, That copies of this Resolution be sent to: The Governor,
The Calvert County Historical Society, Mrs. Robert Coffin, Mrs.
Stuart Vaughn, and Captain A. G. W. McFadden.

(Senate Joint Resolution 77)

Senate Joint Resolution requesting the Legislative Council to study
and report on the feasibility of establishing a training commission
for firemen and members of a rescue squad. RESCUE SQUADS.

Whereas, There is presently a Fire Service Extension Department
of the College of Engineering of the University of Maryland, which
provides fire service training; and

Whereas, There is presently a Police Training Commission and
Correctional Training Commission to train police and correctional
officers, respectively; and

Whereas, The aforesaid Training Commissions have provided
training very effectively as separate State agencies, without being
aligned with any
WHILE NOT UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF
ANY ACADEMIC educational institution; and

Whereas, It is in the interests of the health and safety of all the
citizens of the State of Maryland for firemen and members of res-
cue squads to receive the best training available to perform their
services; and
