1904                             Joint Resolutions

No. 24

(Senate Joint Resolution 57)

Senate Joint Resolution requesting a study of State agencies and
offices utilizing office facilities in county-owned buildings.

Whereas, State and State oriented agencies presently utilize much
of the available office space in county courthouses and other county-
owned or leased facilities; and

Whereas, Space requirements for both State and county agencies
are increasing rapidly; and

Whereas, To meet their needs, county governments have had to
lease or construct additional facilities in order to serve their resi-
dents; and

Whereas, An overall State policy regarding payments in lieu of
rent for State agencies and offices utilizing county office space should
be developed to provide for an equitable allocation of the cost of
office facilities; and

Whereas, There is a need for a study of the State's expansion
needs particularly as they involve additional use of county facilities;
now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Legisla-
tive Council undertake a study of the present and projected utiliza-
tion of office space in county-owned buildings by State agencies and
offices and develop a policy for payments in lieu of rent for utiliza-
tion of such office space and submit a report to the 1973 General
Assembly,; AND BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, THAT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION BE SENT
TO THE CHAIRMAN AND SECRETARY OF THE LEGISLA-
TIVE COUNCIL OF MARYLAND.

(Senate Joint Resolution 64)

Senate Joint Resolution requesting the Department of Defense to
acquire additional land within the State for use as a National
Cemetery.

Whereas, Many citizens of Maryland are veterans or relatives
of veterans and hereby entitled to burial in a National cemetery; and

Whereas, National cemeteries are rapidly becoming overcrowded,
thereby necessitating a curtailment of the honor of being laid to
rest on government property; and

Whereas, It is unfortunate that many qualified persons within
this State will be denied their privilege to be buried in a National
cemetery by reason of a shortage of available space set aside for
use as a National cemetery; and
