1832 Laws of Maryland [Ch. 730
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That subsections (a), (b) and (c) of Section 111 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Calvert County (1963 Edition, being Article 5
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Calvert
County," subtitle "Circuit Court"; subsections (a), (b) and (c) of
Section 32 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Charles County (1959
Edition, being Article 9 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land), title "Charles County," subtitle "Circuit Court"; that subsec-
tions (a), (b) and (c) of Section 12-10 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Prince George's County (1963 Edition, being Article 17 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Prince George's
County," subtitle "Circuit Court" and Section 45A of Article 19 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"St. Mary's County," subtitle "Circuit Court," be and they are
hereby repealed and that new subsections (a), (b) and (c) of Section
111 of said Calvert County Code, being also subsections (a), (b)
and (c) of Section 32 of the said Charles County Code, being also
subsections (a), (b) and (c) of Section 12-10 in the said Prince
George's County Code and being also Section 45A of said Article 19
of the said Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, be and they are
hereby enacted in lieu thereof and all to read as follows:
Section 12-10 Court Reporters
(a) The Judges of the Seventh Judicial Circuit of Maryland shall
appoint one or more official court reporters for the circuit courts of
Calvert, Charles, Prince George's, and St. Mary's Counties, respec-
tively. These reporters each shall be expert stenographers or other-
wise competent to record court proceedings. Each shall hold office
during the pleasure of the judges of said respective courts. The court
reporters or stenographers in Prince George's County shall be paid
a per diem or annual salary to be fixed [by the court not to exceed
$40.00 for each and every day of actual service;] by the county gov-
erning body after consultation with the County Administrative
Judge; and the court stenographers for Calvert and St. Mary's
Counties shall be paid a per diem or annual salary to be fixed by the
[court not to exceed $40.00 for each and every day of actual service.]
County Commissioners after consultation with the County Adminis-
trative Judge. Each such court stenographer or reporter shall be paid
such expenses as may be approved by the court payable by the County
Treasurer or similar officer of the county in the circuit court of which
such services shall have been rendered, as a part of the court's ex-
penses, upon the presentation of a certificate of the clerk or any of the
judges of said courts showing attendance and services of said re-
porter. However, in Calvert and St. Mary's Counties the court re-
porter or stenographer [shall] may be paid mileage at the rate of
ten cents per mile for all necessary travel between his home and the
place of executing his duties as such [;] . [and the court reporters or
stenographers in Calvert and St. Mary's Counties after having served
at least two years in such position shall be granted two weeks vaca-
tion with pay which shall be computed from the weekly average of
per diem compensation during the year.]
(b) Said reporters shall attend and take full stenographic notes
of, or otherwise record, all oral testimony and judicial opinions in
all proceedings in said courts at such times and in such cases as the
respective courts may direct. Said reporters shall make and furnish
