a new schedule of compensation of the Chairman, Vice Chairman
and other members of the Washington Suburban Sanitary Com-
mission.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That subsection (d) of Section 1-1 of the Washington Suburban Sani-
tary District Code (1969 Edition, as amended), being Section 83-57
(d) of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince George's County (1963
Edition), and Section 71-4(d) of the Montgomery County Code
(1965 Edition), and being Articles 17 and 16, respectively, of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, titled "Prince George's
County" and "Montgomery County," subtitled "Washington Subur-
ban Sanitary District," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
1-1. (83-57; 71-4).
(d) Election of Chairman and Vice Chairman; compensation of
members. With respect to the chairman, vice-chairman and commis-
sioners who commenced their terms in such offices prior to June 1,
[1969] 1972, the annual salary of the chairman of the Commis-
sion shall be [forty-eight hundred dollars ($4,800.00)] eight thou-
sand five hundred dollars ($8,500.00) SIX THOUSAND SEVEN
HUNDRED DOLLARS ($6,700.00); of the vice-chairman, [forty-five
hundred dollars ($4,500.00)] SIX THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED
DOLLARS ($6,400.00) and [to] OF THE other members of the Com-
mission [forty-two hundred dollars ($4,200.00)] eight thousand dol-
lars ($8,000.00) SIX THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS
($6,200.00) all payable bi-weekly, and for the chairman, [vice-chair-
man] and other members of the Commission who, respectively,
commence such term of office on June 1, [1969] 1972, or thereafter,
whether by first appointment or election or reappointment or re-
election RE-ELECTION as elsewhere provided for in this Section,
the respective salaries shall be [six thousand seven hundred dollars
($6,700.00), six thousand four hundred dollars ($6,400.00), and six
thousand two hundred ($6,200.00)] eight thousand five hundred
dollars ($8,500.00), EIGHT THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED DOL-
LARS ($8,300.00) and eight thousand dollars ($8,000.00) all pay-
able bi-weekly. The chairman and vice chairman AND VICE CHAIR-
MAN shall perform such duties as the Commission shall from time to
time designate. The Commission shall, in June [1968] 1972 and in
June every year thereafter, at its first meeting in that month or as
soon thereafter as possible, elect from among its members a chairman
and a vice-chairman, one to be from Prince George's County and one
to be from Montgomery County, who shall serve for one year or until
their successors are elected and qualified. The office of chairman, and
the office of vice-chairman, shall rotate between the counties, that is to
say, at any annual election the chairman for the then ensuing year's
term shall be from the county different from the county from whence
came the chairman for the expiring year's term, and the same provi-
sion shall apply to the office of vice-chairman; provided, however, that
upon a unanimous vote of the membership this provision may be
waived for one year, but not for two years in succession. If a vacancy
exists in the position of chairman or vice-chairman, the Commission
shall elect a new chairman or vice-chairman for the remaining por-
tion of the one year term of such office, and if the vacancy in the posi-
tion of chairman or vice-chairman involves or was occasioned by that
