AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 9(57A)
of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replace-
ment Volume and 1971 Supplement), title "Revenue and Taxes,"
subtitle "What Shall Be Taxed and Where," to provide for the
exemption from county property taxation OF real property in
Calvert County held by nonprofit community or civic improvement
associations or corporations AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE USE
OF THE PROPERTY SUBJECT TO EXEMPTION.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 9(57A) of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1969 Replacement Volume and 1971 Supplement), title "Reve-
nue and Taxes," subtitle "What Shall Be Taxed and Where," be
and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, WITH AMENDMENTS,
to read as follows:

(57A) For the purposes of county taxation in Calvert County
and Carroll County and in the discretion of the Board of County
Commissioners of Calvert County and Carroll County, real property,
the title to which is held by a non-profit community or civic im-
provement association or corporation and which is devoted to
and used exclusively for community, civic, educational, or library
purposes, and the use of the property must not be contingent upon
the payment of any fee or other compensation, AND FAILURE
TO PAY ANY SUCH FEE OR OTHER COMPENSATION IS
NOT A REASON TO DENY ADMISSION TO OR USE OF THIS
PROPERTY. Assessments exacted and employed by the association
or corporation solely for the improvement or maintenance of the
property do not constitute a "fee or other compensation" under the
provisions of this subsection.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.
