(b) In the following counties: Baltimore, Charles, Harford,
Howard, Kent, Montgomery, Prince George's, Queen Anne's, Wash-
ington, Wicomico and Worcester the time within which the claim
must be presented is one hundred and eighty (180) days.
(c) In the following counties: Anne Arundel, Calvert, Caroline,
Cecil, Frederick and St. Mary's, the time within which notification
of intention to make the claim must be presented is ninety (90) days.
In Baltimore City and in all municipal corporations notification of
intention to make a claim must be presented within one hundred and
eighty (180) days.]
SEC. 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT THE
PROVISIONS OF THIS ACT SHALL BE CONSTRUED ONLY
PROSPECTIVELY AND SHALL NOT BE APPLIED OR INTER-
PRETED TO HAVE ANY EFFECT UPON OR APPLICATION
TO ANY EVENT OR HAPPENING OCCURRING PRIOR TO THE
EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ACT.
Sec. 2 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1972.

(House Bill 518)
AN ACT to add new Section 147A to Article 43 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume), title "Health,"
subtitle "Anatomical Gift Act," to authorize the transplantation
of an internal organ under certain circumstances, and relating
generally to transplantation of internal organs.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 147A be and it is hereby added to Article 43 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume), title
"Health," subtitle "Anatomical Gift Act," to read as follows:
147A.
(A) In any case where a patient is in immediate need for an in-
ternal organ as a transplant, the Chief Medical Examiner or his
deputy , THE DEPUTY CHIEF OR THE ASSISTANT MEDICAL
EXAMINERS may provide the organ upon the request of the trans-
planting surgeon under the following conditions:
(a) (1) a decedent who may provide a suitable organ for the
transplant is under their jurisdiction; and
(b) (2) a reasonable, unsuccessful search is HAS BEEN made
by the treating physician and the hospital where the patient is located
to contact the next of kin; and
