Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.

CHAPTER 379
(Senate Bill 508)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 3-403.1
(d) of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970
Replacement Volume), title "Vehicle Laws," subtitle "Certificates
of Title and Registration of Vehicles," subheading "Registration
of Vehicles," providing that in Prince George's County the county
treasurer shall not act as agent for the Department of Motor
Vehicles in the registration of vehicles, but that the Department of
Motor Vehicles may process applications for registration from
Prince George's County in any way authorized by Article 66½.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 3-403.1 (d) of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1970 Replacement Volume), title "Vehicle Laws," subtitle
"Certificates of Title and Registration of Vehicles," subheading "Reg-
istration of Vehicles," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

3-403.1.

(d) The following counties shall leave the decision as to whether
or not this section applies to the board of county commissioners or
county council of the respective counties by appropriate resolution:
Carroll, Dorchester, Frederick, [Prince George's,] Worcester, Wash-
ington, and Wicomico. The tax collector for the first tax collection
district of Allegany County is authorized to act as agent of the
Department in the registration of vehicles, as specified in this sec-
tion; but the fee of fifteen cents and other revenues received by the
collector for the issuance of plates shall be paid to the County Com-
missioners of Allegany County, and all the moneys shall be placed in
a general fund of the county. The county treasurer of Anne Arundel
County, Cecil County, Somerset County, Calvert County, Harford
County, and Garrett County shall act as agent of the Department in
the registration of motor vehicles of the Class A passenger or pleasure
type and issue registration plates and registration cards as herein-
above prescribed. In Talbot County, the additional fees paid to the
county treasurer for his services, by virtue of subsections (a) and (d)
of this section, shall be paid to the County Commissioners of Talbot
County and all said moneys shall be placed in a general fund of the
county. In Prince George's County the county treasurer shall not
act as agent for the Department in the registration of vehicles. The
Department is authorized to process registration applications from
Prince George's County in any other way authorized by this Article.
