CHAPTER 278
(House Bill 217)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 3.05(c)
of Article 66B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Zoning and Planning," subtitle "Planning
Commission Generally," to remove excess verbiage from the Sec-
tion and to clarify the language therein.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 3.05(c) of Article 66B of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1970 Replacement Volume), title "Zoning and Planning," sub-
title "Planning Commission Generally," be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

3.05.

(c) The Commission shall have power to promote public interest
in and understanding of the plan. The commission shall [,] from
time to time [,] recommend to the appropriate public officials pro-
grams for public structures, improvements and land acquisitions, and
for [the] their financing [thereof]. It shall be part of its duties to
consult [and advise with] public officials and agencies, public utility
companies, civic, educational, professional and other organizations,
and [with] citizens with relation to the protecting or execution of
the plan. The commission shall have the right to accept and use gifts
and public or private grants for the exercise of its functions. All
public officials shall, upon request, furnish to the commission within a
reasonable time [such] that available information as it may require
for its program. The commission, its members, officers, and em-
ployees, in the performance of their functions [,] may enter upon any
land and make examinations and surveys. In general, the commission
shall have [such] those powers as may be necessary to enable it to
fulfill its functions, promote planning, or execute the purposes of
this article.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.

CHAPTER 279
(House Bill 219)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37 of
Article 65 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Replacement
Volume), title "Militia," subtitle "In General," shortening the
length of continuous service required by the officers and enlisted
men of the organized militia of the State to qualify for service
medals.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37 of Article 65 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
