parent for acts of damage committed by the minor child of such
parent.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 71A of Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1966 Replacement Volume and 1970 Supplement), title "Courts,
subtitle "Special Powers in Juvenile Causes," be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

71A.

Any judge having, sitting, and exercising jurisdiction in any
juvenile cause, lawfully before him, shall, in his discretion, have
power to award a judgment in favor of a wronged person and against
any parent for acts of wilful or malicious [destruction or theft of
any property owned by such wronged person] damage OR ANY
MEDICAL EXPENSES INCURRED BY AN INJURED PERSON
WILFULLY OR MALICIOUSLY caused or committed by the minor
child of such parent, or such judge may order such parent to make
restitution to the injured person [whose property has been so de-
stroyed or stolen] OR WHO HAS INCURRED SUCH MEDICAL
EXPENSES and shall have full power to cite for contempt for a
violation thereof if the facts of a particular case before him indi-
cates sufficient ability of such parent to comply with such order. The
limit of such parent's liability for all damages including medical
expenses
under this section shall not exceed the sum of one thousand
dollars ($1000.00). The court may pass an appropriate order requir-
ing such minor child who wilfully or maliciously destroys or steals
property OR WILFULLY OR MALICIOUSLY INJURES AN-
OTHER to make restitution OR PAY THE MEDICAL EXPENSES
himself if such is feasible considering the age and circumstances
of the child, and the requirement of the child's making restitution
OR PAYING THE MEDICAL EXPENSES shall precede any liabil-
ity of the parent hereunder.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.

CHAPTER 236
(Senate Bill 366)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 660 (a) of
Article 66C of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Natural Resources," subtitle "Mining," sub-
heading "Strip Mining," to provide for alternates for the mining
industry representatives of the Land Reclamation Committee, and
to correct the name of the Department of Game and Inland Fish.
