addition to and over and above such compensation prescribed herein
for members of the said board].

(7) WORCESTER COUNTY—FIFTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS
($1,500.00) PER ANNUM, WITH A MILEAGE FEE OF TEN
CENTS PER MILE WHEN IN ATTENDANCE UPON MEET-
INGS.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1,1971.

CHAPTER 59
(Senate Bill 221)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40 (w)
of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970 Supple-
ment), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact," subtitle
"State's Attorney," making general provision for salaries, expense
allowance, a deputy State's attorney, and assistant State's at-
torneys in Wicomico County and for the duties of certain county
officials in relation thereto.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40 (w) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1970 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact,"
subtitle "State's Attorney," be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

40.

(w) In Wicomico County, (1) the State's Attorney's salary is ten
thousand dollars ($10,000).

(2)  The State's Attorney's allowance for office expenses, including
stationery, postage, premium on official bond, and clerical services,
is [five thousand dollars ($5,000.00)] not more than $7,500, to be
paid upon submission of properly certified vouchers to the Wicomico
County Council.

(3)   The State's Attorney of Wicomico County is required to main-
tain and staff an office in the Wicomico County courthouse.

(4)  Subject to the recommendation of the resident judge of the
Circuit Court of Wicomico County [and with the approval of the
Wicomico County Council], the State's Attorney may appoint a mem-
ber of the bar of Wicomico County as deputy State's attorney; and
subject to the recommendation of the resident judge of the Circuit
Court of Wicomico County, the State's Attorney from time to time
may appoint members of the bar of Wicomico County
as assistant
State's attorneys, to serve for a particular case or series of cases.
The annual salary of the deputy State's attorney is six thousand
dollars ($6,000); and the
Wicomico County Council shall provide and
fix the compensation of such assistant State's attorneys. Under the
