duties of his office, shall give bond to the State of Maryland in the
penalty of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00), to be approved by the
County Commissioners, conditioned for the faithful performance of
the duties of his office, which bond shall be recorded in the office of
the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Garrett County, and shall take and
subscribe, before one of the County Commissioners, an oath that he
will honestly and faithfully, to the best of his skill and judgment,
execute the duties of said office. The said Clerk shall be in charge of
the office of the County Commissioners, shall perform the duties
pertaining to his office and such other duties as may be prescribed
by the County Commissioners or imposed by law, and shall have full
power to administer an oath or affirmation to any and all persons who
are to be examined as witnesses in any matter before the County
Commissioners, and touching or relating to any account, bill or other
matter to be filed in the office of said County Commissioners. Said
Clerk shall receive an annual salary not [to exceed] less than [Three]
Five Thousand [Six Hundred] Dollars [($3,600.00)] ($5,000.00).

PAYABLE MONTHLY. [The Clerk shall perform all the duties of
his office without any additional help. The office of the Clerk shall foe
kept open from 9 A.M. until 12 noon, and from 1 P.M. until 4 P.M.
daily, except Sunday.]

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.

CHAPTER 17
(Senate Bill 385)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 39A of
Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970 Supplement),
title "Courts," subtitle "Circuit Courts for the Counties—Court
Stenographers," to increase the compensation for the court stenog-
rapher for the Circuit Court for Garrett County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 39A of Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1970 Supplement), title "Courts," subtitle "Circuit Courts for the
Counties—Court Stenographers," be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

39A.

The judge or judges of the Circuit Court for Garrett County is
authorized and empowered to appoint a stenographer at a compensa-
tion not to exceed [[$6,500.00] $7,000.00, to be paid by the County
Commissioners of Garrett County. The stenographer shall have au-
thority to take and transcribe the testimony given before the grand
jury in Garrett County, and all of the testimony so taken and tran-
scribed shall be for the exclusive use and benefit of the grand jury
