Bill No. 3-70

AN ORDINANCE to repeal Section 10-201 (9) of the Anne Arundel
County Code (1967 Edition and Supplement), Title 10, "Fire Pro-
tection", Subtitle II, "Fire Prevention Code", and to enact new
Section 10-201 (9) in lieu thereof, to stand in place of the section
repealed; to add new Section 28.18 to the amendments of Section
10-201 (10) of said Code, Title and Subtitle, to follow immediately
after Section 28.17 thereof; and to repeal and re-enact, with amend-
ments, Section 10-201 (12) of said Code, Title and Subtitle;
respectively revising the standard for computing the basis for over-
crowding of buildings, authorizing the removal of obstructions to
fire lanes, the maintenance thereof, and penalties for failure to
observe said fire lanes; and setting forth requirements for the
installation of dry standpipe systems for certain marinas; and
matters generally related thereto.

Section 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MARYLAND, that Section 10-201 (9) of
the Anne Arundel County Code (1967 Edition and Supplements), Title 10,
"Fire Protection", Subtitle II, "Fire Prevention Code", be and it is hereby
repealed, and new Section 10-201 (9) is hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to
stand in the place of the section repealed, to read as follows:

Section 10-201

(9) Article 27. Places of Assembly. Add new paragraphs to follow
Section 27.13.

Section 27.14. Overcrowding in Buildings. Basis for Overcrowding.

"The maximum number of persons who may occupy any particular
place of assembly where more than 100 persons assemble at any one time,
shall be computed using the requirements of National Fire Protection
Association Standard 101 Life Safety Code, 1967 Edition.

"(a) The owner or occupant of any building or place of assembly
may, by a letter to the Fire Marshal's Office PREVENTION BUREAU,
request that the premises be posted for maximum occupancy at a lesser
number of persons than computed by the aforegoing sections.

"(b) In every place of public assembly covered by these paragraphs,
there shall be a certificate no less than five and one-half inches by eight
and one-half inches in size permanently posted in a conspicuous place in
the assembly room near the entrance. Such certificate shall be furnished
and signed by the Fire Marshal CHIEF FIRE PREVENTION INSPEC-
TOR and shall read as follows:

CAPACITY CERTIFICATE

Not more than................................persons are allowed in this

(name of assembly)

and such certificate shall be posted before any new place of public assembly
is opened for business, and in existing places of public assembly."
