2-100. Special deputy sheriffs.

(a)    The Sheriff of the County, on application of any corporation or
individual, may appoint special deputy sheriffs for duty in connection with
the property of, or under the charge of, such corporation or individual;
such special deputy sheriffs to be paid wholly by the corporation or person
on whose account their appointments are made. Such special deputy sher-
iffs shall hold office at the pleasure of the Sheriff and shall have the same
power and authority as deputy sheriffs possess within the area to which
they are appointed and in no other area.

(b)    The Sheriff of the County, on application of the County Health
Officer, may appoint special deputies for duty in connection with the
movement and transportation of alcoholic patients relating to detoxifica-
tion until such time as these patients have been committed for in-patient
treatment and care under Article 2C, Section 306 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1968 Supp.). Such special deputy sheriffs are to be paid
wholly by the Montgomery County Department of Health and shall hold
office at the pleasure of the Sheriff. Further, they shall have the same
power and authority as deputy sheriffs possess while they are engaged in
the transportation of alcoholic patients.

Section 2. This Act shall take effect on the 76th day following its
enactment.

Chapter 7
(Bill No. 52-69)

An Act to amend Chapter 17, Section 17-7 Montgomery County Code
1965, titled "Streets, etc. dedicated to public use; abandonment of
subdivisions," to follow immediately after Section 17-6 thereof, to pro-
vide: that in petitions for abandonment filed with the Circuit Court
for Montgomery County, Maryland, a copy of the petition shall be
served upon all gas, electric and telephone utility companies franchised
by the State of Maryland or Montgomery County to service Mont-
gomery County, that the period of time granted to the municipal
corporation, agencies and utility companies to file with the court re-
spective recommendations as to any abandonment shall be sixty days
from the date of service, that the court shall not grant any petition
for abandonment until the expiration of sixty days from the date of
service or such other time subsequent thereto as directed by the
court.

Be It Enacted by the County Council for Montgomery County, Maryland,
that—

Section 1. Chapter 17, Section 17-7, Montgomery County Code 1965,
is hereby amended to read as follows:

17-7. Streets, etc., dedicated to public use; abandonment of subdivisions.

When the plats are so recorded, those portions of lands designated on
the plats as drainage ways, paths, walks, streets, roads, avenues, lanes,
alleys, and public parks or squares, or other areas dedicated to public use
shall be and the same are hereby declared to be forever dedicated to public
