1970, CHAPTER 560—St. Mary's County School Bonds

Pursuant to the provisions contained in Section 23-11 of Article
33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, the State Administrative
Board of Election Laws does hereby certify that at the General Elec-
tion held on November 3, 1970, an Act known as Chapter 560 of the
Acts of 1970 was submitted to the voters of St. Mary's County under
the provisions of Chapter 560 of the Acts of 1970, said Act being as
follows:
AN ACT TO REPEAL CHAPTER 619 OF THE ACTS OF THE
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND OF 1969 WHICH
AUTHORIZED AND EMPOWERED THE COUNTY COM-
MISSIONERS OF ST. MARY'S COUNTY TO BORROW A
CERTAIN SUM OF MONEY FOR THE PURPOSE OF
ERECTING NEW SCHOOL BUILDINGS AND FOR RE-
LATED PURPOSES AND to authorize and empower the
County Commissioners of St. Mary's County to borrow, upon
the faith and credit of the County, a sum or sums of money not
to exceed in the aggregate the sum of four million five hundred
thousand dollars ($4,500,000), and to evidence such borrowing
by the issuance and sale of the general obligation bonds of the
County in such form and bearing such rate or rates of interest
as said County Commissioners may by resolution determine; to
provide that proceeds of the sale of any such bonds shall be
used exclusively for the purpose of erecting new school build-
ings, including land for such buildings and for facilities appur-
tenant thereto, the payment of architects' and other profes-
sional fees in connection therewith, the alteration or repair of
existing school buildings and the equipping of school buildings,
all in St. Mary's County; to authorize and direct the County
Commissioners of St. Mary's County to provide for the pay-
ment of the maturing principal of and the interest on any bond
issued hereunder by the annual levy, until all of said bonds and
the interest thereon, shall have been paid or provisions made for
their payment, of ad valorem taxes upon all property subject
to assessment for taxation in said County, said taxes to be in
rate and amount sufficient for said purpose, subject to the appli-
cation, hereby permitted, on account of such principal and in-
terest of any school building incentive funds allocated to St.
Mary's County by the State of Maryland and not otherwise
pledged and providing a referendum thereon.
AND it is hereby certified that at said election 2,788 votes were
cast for the adoption of said Chapter 560 and 2,234 votes were cast
against the adoption of said Chapter 560, the said Chapter 560 of the
Acts of 1970 has therefore been ratified by the qualified voters of St.
Mary's County.
