RENEW A WRITTEN LEASE FOR ONE YEAR OR LONGER
UNDER THE FORMS CONTAINED THEREIN; PROVIDED,
HOWEVER, THAT SUCH WRITTEN LEASE SHALL NOT BE
USED TO DEFEAT THE INTENT AND PROVISIONS OF THIS
ACT.

(L) A LANDLORD MAY REPOSSESS HIS PREMISES AFTER
GIVING A PROPER SIXTY-DAY NOTICE TO THE TENANT
OF THE LANDLORD'S DESIRE TO REPOSSESS THE PREM-
ISES PROVIDED THAT THE LANDLORD, IN GOOD FAITH, IN-
TENDS TO RAZE OR BOARD UP HIS PREMISES AND IN-
TENDS TO OBTAIN A PERMIT TO DO SO.

(1) (M) Any 'provision of a lease or other agreement whereby
any provision of this Act for the benefit of a tenant, resident or
occupant of a dwelling is waived shall be deemed to be against public
policy and shall be void.

(m) (N) This Act shall also apply to any residential premises
located in Baltimore City leased by an Agency of the State of Mary-
land or the City of Baltimore.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That all laws or parts of laws,
public general or public local, inconsistent with the provisions of this
Act, are hereby repealed to the extent of such inconsistency.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37(k)
of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Sheriffs", subtitle "Compensation and
Duties", to provide for the appointment of additional deputy
sheriffs and special deputy sheriffs in Garrett County; to provide
that deputy sheriffs perform all the duties now performed by the
constables of the trial magistrates' courts of Garrett County;
to compensate the sheriff for necessary expenses related to the
boarding of prisoners on a monthly basis, subject to a certain
procedure with which the sheriff must comply; and to clarify
language therein.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37 (k) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1969 Replacement Volume), title "Sheriffs", subtitle "Com-
pensation and Duties", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
