Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 213(a), 213(b) and 213(c) of Article 56 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1968 Replacement Volume and 1970
Supplement), title "Licenses," subtitle "Real Estate Brokers," be
and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:
213.
(a) The Real Estate Commission of Maryland is created and
shall be a part of the Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The Commission shall consist of seven members, five of whom shall
be residents respectively of (1) one of the nine counties (Cecil,
Kent, Queen Anne's, Caroline, Talbot, Dorchester, Wicomico, Wor-
cester, Somerset) of the Eastern Shore; (2) one of the four coun-
ties (Harford, Baltimore, Carroll, Howard) of Central Maryland;
(3) Baltimore City; (4) one of the five counties (Anne Arundel,
Prince George's, Calvert, Charles, St. Mary's) of Southern Mary-
land; and (5) one of the five counties (Montgomery, Frederick,
Washington, Allegany, Garrett) of Western Maryland. Two other
members shall be appointed from the State of Maryland, at large,
subject to the provisions of subsection (b) of this section.
(b) In each instance, members of the Commission shall have been
citizens and residents of the particular area for which appointed,
respectively, for not less than the five years next preceding their
appointment to the Commission; and, at the time of appointment,
and for a period of not less than the ten years next preceding appoint-
ment, each member, except until May 31, 1967, the chief of the
license bureau, shall be and shall have been licensed under this
subtitle either as a real estate broker or as a real estate salesman.

shall be residents of areas designated by the Governor as areae re-
quiring greater attention by the Commission without regard to the
particular area for which appointed and these two members shall not
be required to be or to have been real estate brokers or salesmen.
(c) The present members of the Commission shall continue to
serve for the terms for which they were respectively appointed,
from time to time upon the occurring of vacancies upon the Com-
mission, as now constituted, whether such vacancies shall happen
by reason of the expiration of the terms for which the members of
said Commission were appointed, respectively, or by reason of any
other cause, the Governor, with the advice of the Secretary of
Licensing and Regulation and with the advice and consent of the
Senate of Maryland, shall appoint a person to fill each vacancy
thus occurring, so that said Commission shall continue to consist
of seven persons as aforesaid. Each person so appointed shall be
appointed for a term of [four] three years, beginning as of June 1
in the year in which appointed, or in case of a vacancy occurring
during the term for which any member of said Commission may
have been appointed, then for the unexpired portion of said term.
Every appointment shall be for the period indicated, or until a
successor is appointed and qualifies.
