590) County in the Province of Maryland and Ironmaster of the other part Whereas by Certain Article of Agreement bearing Date the Fifth Day of July in the Year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and thirty six and made between the said Richard Snowden of the first Edmund Jennings of the City of Annapolis Esquire of the Second part John Galloway of Anne Arundle County aforesaid Gentleman of the third part and Joseph Cowman of the be same County Gentleman of the Fourth part It is therein amongst other things recited that Whereas the Partys to the said presents had entered into Several Covenants and Clauses of Agreement with each other for the carrying on an Iron Work or Works and the Business of a Furnace and Forge then & now erected on the Head and Branch^es^ of Patuxent River and for which Purpose the said Richard ^Snowden^ did agree to convey in Fee Simple Ten thousand one hundred Acres of Land in the said Articles Particularly mentioned for the use of the said Ironworks And whereas several other Tracts and Parcels of Land from Thomas Linthicum and Edward and Margaret Gaither as well as Slaves Horses Waggons and other Materials and Implements have been purchased for the use and purpose of Carrying on the said Richard Snowden in pursuance of the said Articles whereby the said Lands and Buildings thereon still remain vested in him And whereas by a certain Indenture of Bargain and Sale bearing Date the Twenty fourth Day of August Anno Domini One thousand seven hundred and thirty seven Made Between the said Richard Snowden of the first part the said Jonathan Forward of the second part and the said Edmund Jennings John Galloway and Joseph Cowman of the third part It is therein also amongst other things recited that Whereas the said Richard was by virtue of the before mentioned Articles of Agreement possessed of Interested in and Intitled unto eleven Sixteenth Shares or parts of the before mentioned Ironworks and that being so seized and possessed the said Jonathan Forward by a certain Writing under his hand bearing Date the Twelfth day of February Anno Domini One thousand seven hundred and thirty six amongst other things therein contained did Authorize Darby Lux of Anne Arundle in the Province aforesaid in the (Name) |
