THAN THE COMPARABLE PROVISIONS OF THE SUBTITLE
OF THIS ARTICLE.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

CHAPTER 414
(Senate Bill 627)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 1, to
repeal Section 4 and to enact a new Section 4 in lieu thereof, to
repeal Section 5 and to renumber Sections 6, 7 and 8 of Chapter
458 of the Laws of Maryland of 1968, which created the Maryland
Bicentennial Commission, to clarify its primary purpose, to pro-
vide it with the power to enter into contracts, accept gifts and
legacies, provide a vehicle for the solicitation of private contri-
butions, adopt bylaws, establish local area committees, establish
functional committees, to cooperate with other State agencies, to
authorize the Chairman to designate an Acting Chairman for
temporary purposes, and generally relating to the functions and
duties of the Commission.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 1 of Chapter 458 of the Laws of Maryland of 1968,
relating to the Maryland Bicentennial Commission, be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

There is hereby created the Maryland Bicentennial Commission
for the commemoration of the American Revolution, hereinafter
referred to as the "Commission." The Commission shall be composed
of fifteen members who shall be appointed by the Governor and
serve at his pleasure. Vacancies shall be filled in the same manner
as the original appointments. Of the initial appointment of the fifteen
members, three shall be appointed for a term of one year, three
shall be appointed for a term of two years, three shall be appointed
for a term of three years, three shall be appointed for a term of
four years, and three shall be appointed for a term of five years.
As these initial terms expire, all members may be appointed for
terms of five years each. A member may be re-appointed to a suc-
cessive term or terms.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 4 of Chapter 458
of the Laws of Maryland of 1968, relating to the Maryland Bicenten-
nial Commission, be and it is hereby repealed and a new Section 4
be and the same is hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to read as follows:
