and Correctional Services. The Secretary shall be responsible for
carrying out the Governor's policies in the areas of public safety, law
enforcement, crime prevention, correction, treatment of defective
delinquents, parole and probation.

(c) The Secretary of Public Safety and Correctional Services
shall be responsible for the operation of the Department of Public
Safety and Correctional Services, and shall establish guidelines and
procedures to promote the orderly and efficient administration there-
of. He may establish areas of responsibility within his office and
may reorganize or abolish the same as necessary to fulfill effectively
the duties assigned to him.

204A.

The following Departments, Agencies, Boards, Commissions,
Offices, Divisions, and Units
UNITS of the State Government shall be
included within the Department of Public Safety and Correctional
Services: the State Civil Defense and Emergency Planning Agency
established pursuant to Section 204D of this Article, the Civil
Defense Advisory Council, the Criminal Injuries Compensation
Board, the Division of Correction established pursuant to Section
204D of this Article, the Patuxent Institution, the Board of Patuxent
Institution, the Advisory Board for Defective Delinquents, the Insti-
tutional Board of Review, the State Fire Prevention Commission,
the office of State Fire Marshal, the Police Training Commission,
the Board of Parole, the Division of Parole and Probation estab-
lished pursuant to Section 204D of this Article, the Sundry Claims
Board, the Maryland Traffic Safety Commission, the Maryland State
Police established pursuant to Section 204D of this Article, the
Advisory Board for Correction, Parole and Probation established
pursuant to Section 204E of this Article, and such other agencies,
boards, commissions, councils, offices, or units of government as may
hereafter pursuant to law be declared to be part of the Department
of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

204B.

(a) The Secretary of Public Safety and Correctional Services
shall appoint, with the approval of the Governor, two Deputy Secre-
taries who shall serve at the pleasure of the Secretary and shall
receive such compensation as is provided in the State Budget. One
of the Deputy Secretaries shall be the Deputy Secretary for Public
Safety, shall assist the Secretary with respect to and be primarily
concerned with the operations of the State Civil Defense Agency,
the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, the State Fire Preven-
tion Commission and the office of the State Fire Marshal, the Police
Training Commission, the Maryland Traffic Safety Commission and
the Maryland State Police, and shall be experienced in one or more
of the areas encompassed by such agencies. The other Deputy Secre-
tary shall be the Deputy Secretary for Correctional Services, shall
assist the Secretary with respect to and be primarily concerned with
the operations of the Division of Correction, the Patuxent Institu-
tion, the Board of Patuxent Institution, the Institutional Board of
Review, the Board of Parole, the Division of Parole and Probation,
and the Sundry Claims Board, and shall be experienced in one or
more of the areas encompassed by such Agencies. Both Deputy Sec-
retaries shall have such additional duties as are provided by law or
