Volume), title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "Places of
Reformation and Punishment," and subheading "Commissioner
of Correction," to permit the Commissioner of Correction to pro-
mulgate rules allowing certain inmates to voluntarily provide serv-
ices to non-profit or charitable organizations.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 676 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1967 Replacement Volume), title "Crimes and Punishments," sub-
title "Commissioner of Correction," is hereby repealed and re-en-
acted, with amendments, to read as follows:

676.

The Commissioner may adopt and promulgate, and from time to
time alter, amend, or abrogate, reasonable rules and regulations, not
inconsistent with law, for the operations and maintenance of the
several institutions and agencies in the Department, for the dis-
cipline and conduct including, but not limited to allowing inmates
of minimum security installations to voluntarily provide services to
installations of non-profitable or charitable organizations,
of prison-
ers, and for the duties, discipline and conduct of officers and em-
ployees of the several institutions and agencies.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

CHAPTER 395
(House Bill 1519)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 185(c)
of the Code of Public Local Laws of St. Mary's County (1965
Edition, 1969 Supplement, being Article 19 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland), title "St. Mary's County," subtitle
"Sheriff," to provide that temporary deputies must take a course
given by the Sheriff in normal police practice and to provide for the
appointment of additional deputies in case of an emergency.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 185(c) of the Code of Public Local Laws of St. Mary's
County (1965 Edition, 1969 Supplement, being Article 19 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "St. Mary's County,"
subtitle "Sheriff," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

(c) Other appointments. Notwithstanding the provision of sub-
section (a) of this Section, the sheriff may appoint such additional
deputies as he may deem necessary, such deputies to serve at the
