Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37 (r) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1969 Replacement Volume), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Com-
pensation and Duties," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
37.
(r) The Sheriff of St. Mary's County shall receive an annual
salary of [$7,000] $14,000 $12,000 and he shall be allowed no
expenses. He shall be assisted by such number of deputies as are
provided for in the public local laws of St. Mary's County.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this
Act shall not be construed to extend or apply to the salary of the
Sheriff in office on the effective date of this Act, but the provisions
of this Act concerning the salary of the Sheriff shall take effect
at the beginning of the next following term of office.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

CHAPTER 320
(Senate Bill 844)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 2-108 (k)
of Article 93 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Decedents' Estates," subtitle "The Court,"
subheading "The Probate Court," to change the salary of the
judges of the Frederick County Orphans' Court.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 2-108 (k) of Article 93 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1969 Replacement Volume), title "Decedents' Estates," sub-
title "The Court," subheading "The Probate Court," be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
2-108.
(k) Each of the judges of the court for Frederick County shall
receive an annual compensation in the amount of [fifteen hundred
dollars ($1,500)] two thousand dollars ($2,000), with no additional
allowance for expenses.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That nothing in this Act shall
be construed to affect the compensation for judges who are in office
on the effective date of this Act, for the remainder of the term in
which they then are serving; this Act shall apply to those judges
elected at the General Election of November, 1970, and thereafter.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.
