(House Bill 466)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 11(b)
of Article 36 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Fees of Officers," subtitle "Bailiffs and Cri-
ers," to increase the per diem rate of pay for criers in Caroline
County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 11 (b) of Article 36 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1965 Replacement Volume), title "Fees of Officers," subtitle
"Bailiffs and Criers," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

11.

(b) Criers.—Every court crier attending the circuit courts in
the counties in this State shall be entitled to the compensation here-
inafter prescribed for each day he shall attend said court, except as
otherwise herein provided.

(1)    Criers and messengers in Charles County shall receive an
amount per day to be determined by the county commissioners and
approved by the Circuit Court of Charles County, not to exceed the
amount paid to jurors.

(2)    Criers in Allegany, Howard, Prince George's, and Washing-
ton counties shall each receive five dollars ($5.00) per day.

(3)    Criers in Anne Arundel County shall each receive seventy-
five dollars ($75.00) per month.

(4)    Criers in Baltimore and Frederick counties shall each re-
ceive such compensation as the court of said counties shall determine.

(5)    Criers in Calvert County shall each receive one hundred
and twenty-five dollars ($125.00) per year.

(6)    Criers in St. Mary's, Worcester and Kent counties shall each
receive ten dollars ($10.00) per day.

(7)    Criers in Carroll, Cecil, Montgomery, Talbot and Wicomico
counties shall each receive such compensation as the county com-
missioners of said counties shall determine.

(8)    Criers in Garrett and Somerset counties shall each receive
such compensation as the county commissioners shall prescribe, but
not exceeding five dollars ($5.00) per day.

(9)    Criers in Queen Anne's County shall each receive ten dol-
lars ($10.00) per day.

(10)     Criers in Caroline County shall receive [seven dollars and
fifty cents ($7.50)] ten dollars ($10.00) per day.

(11)    The several bailiffs and criers shall perform such duties
as may be prescribed by the several laws of the State and by the
local laws of their respective counties.
