37.

(p) The Sheriff of Prince George's County shall receive an an-
nual salary of [$12,000] ($18,000) per year [,]. [, be provided with
an automobile during his term as Sheriff for the use and work of his
office within said County, maintenance for said automobile to be at
the cost of the County7. [and up to $1,500 per year for expenses which
must be submitted to the County Commissioners for approval and
which are incurred for the use and work of his office.] All full-time
employees, including Deputy Sheriffs, jail guards, and jail matrons,
appointed by the Sheriff or assigned to him by the County Commis-
sioners for Prince George's County, shall be subject to said County's
Merit System as to qualifications, compensation and other regula-
tions, with the exception of one administrative aide, who may be
appointed by the Sheriff. Deputy Sheriffs employed prior to, and still
on duty as of June 1, 1967, shall be qualified and employed under said
County's Merit System as to qualifications, compensation and other
regulations.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this Act
as pertains to salary, shall not be construed to extend or apply to the
Sheriff of Prince George's County in office on the effective date of
this Act but the provisions of this Act shall take effect with the next
term of office.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

CHAPTER 227
(House Bill 1373)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 155 (m)
of Article 2B of the Annotated Code of Maryland, (1968 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Alcoholic Beverages," subtitle "Boards of
License Commissioners," to eliminate the additional compensa-
tion paid to the County Commissioners of Garrett County for
acting as the board of license commissioners of the County; to
repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 68 of the Code of
Public Laws of Garrett County, (1957 Edition, being Article 12
of the Code of Public Laws of Maryland), title "Garrett County,"
subtitle "County Commissioners," as last amended by Chapter 70
of the Acts of 1966; to eliminate the additional salary received
by the County Commissioners for duties as Road Board; and to
repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 67 of the Code of
Public Laws of Garrett County, (1957 Edition, being Article 12
of the Code of Public Laws of Maryland), title "Garrett County,"
subtitle "County Commissioners," as last amended by Chapter
468 of the Acts of 1966, to provide that the President of the Board

of County Commissioners shall receive a total sum of forty-five

hundred dollars ($1,500) annually and the other commissioners
shall receive forty two hundred dollars ($4,200) annually, to be
