(House Bill 664)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 20 (b) of
Article 36 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement
Volume), title "Fees of Officers," subtitle "Justices of the Peace,"
to provide for the fee for filing suit in the Trial Magistrate's Court
for Charles County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 20(b) of Article 36 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1965 Replacement Volume), title "Fees of Officers," subtitle "Jus-
tices of the Peace," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
20.
(b) In Charles County, and notwithstanding any other provi-
sions of this section, a flat fee of [$2.50] $10.00 shall be paid upon
the filing of any suit in the magistrates court, which said fee shall
be the entire costs in the proceedings for both the Sheriff and the
justice of the peace.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
on July 1, 1970.

AN ACT to add new Section 38(d) to Article 52 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1969 Supplement), title "Justices of Peace,"
subtitle "Process and Practice," to follow immediately after Sec-
tion 38(c) thereof, granting magistrates for Charles County the
power to punish for contempt of court by fine or imprisonment.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 38(d) be and it is hereby added to Article 52 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Supplement), title "Justices of
Peace," subtitle "Process and Practice," to follow immediately after
Section 38(c) thereof, and to read as follows:
38.
(d) The trial magistrate, associate trial magistrate and sub-
stitute trial magistrate for Charles County shall have the power and
authority to enforce obedience to their rules, orders and judgments
by attachments, and to inflict punishment for contempt of court by
a fine not exceeding the sum of fifty ($50.00) dollars, or by confine-
ment in the county jail not to exceed ten (10) days; said fine shall
be paid to the County Commissioners of Charles County; provided,
however, that the power aforesaid to punish for contempt shall
