to do and perform, and such deputies shall not be entitled to demand
or be paid any further or other compensation for the rendition of
any service incident to their office than that provided in this section.
The County Council is hereby authorized and directed to levy and
collect annual taxes on the property assessable for taxation in said
county in such amount as may be necessary for the payment of the
salaries and allowances as specified in this section.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That nothing in this Act shall
be construed or applied to change or affect the salary of the sheriff
of Montgomery County who is in office on the effective date of this
Act, for the remainder of the term in which he then is serving. The
increase in compensation shall take effect at the beginning of the
term of the sheriff who is elected to that position in the month of
November, 1970.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect on
July 1, 1970.

CHAPTER 149
(House Bill 38)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 32, 35,
36 and 37 of Article 21 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1966
Replacement Volume), title "Conveyancing," subtitle "Mort-
gages," to eliminate the requirement that an assignment of a
mortgage or an endorsed release of a mortgage or deed of trust be
recorded at the foot of the mortgage or deed of trust and providing
that such assignments and releases be recorded photographically;
to eliminate the provision that the short release may be written
by the mortgagee, or his assignee, or the trustee under a deed of
trust, directly upon the record in those subdivisions not using the
book form of recording and retaining an option in those subdivi-
sions using the book form of recording; to provide that clerks
can withdraw the original mortgage or deed of trust with the
release thereon by using a photographic process of recording; and
to generally relate to the conveyancing laws.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 32, 35, 36 and 37 of Article 21 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1966 Replacement Volume), title "Conveyancing," sub-
title "Mortgages," be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
32.
An assignment of a mortgage may be made in the following form
or to the like effect:
"I hereby assign the within mortgage to the assignee.
"Witness my hand and seal this .............. day of .....
