(House Bill 1042)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 2-11 (b) (2)
of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Supple-
ment), title "Election Code," subtitle "Election Boards and Em-
ployees," to provide that polling places in Charles County include,
at the discretion of the election board, private firehouses, private
halls, and other buildings, except church halls.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 2-11(b)(2) of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1969 Supplement), title "Election Code," subtitle "Elec-
tion Boards and Employees," be and it is hereby repealed and re-en-
acted, with amendments, and to read as follows:
2-11.
(b) Wherever possible and practicable, it shall be the duty of
each board to use public buildings, such as school houses and fire-
engine houses, for polling places. It is the duty of all public officials
having charge of such buildings to place them at the disposal of the
boards without charge. Such space as needed therein for the proper
conduct of elections shall be provided upon application for their use
by the boards and light, heat and custodial and janitorial services
for the buildings shall be provided without charge. Nothing in this
subsection shall be construed to mean that volunteer fire companies or
rescue squads shall not be paid for the use of their facilities.
(1) In Montgomery County it shall be mandatory that the county
Board of Education make available such space and custodial service
as needed for the proper conduct of registrations and elections upon
application by the board for the county.
(2) In Charles County the board in its discretion, shall be per-
mitted to use private firehouses, [and] private halls[,] and other
buildings excluding church halls, for registration and polling places.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

CHAPTER 107
(Senate Bill 377)
AN ACT to add new Section 1A-1 (g) to Article 33 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1969 Supplement), title "Election Code," sub-
title "State Administrative Board of Election Laws," to follow
immediately after Section 1A-1 (f) thereof, requiring the State
Administrative Board of Election Laws to establish and maintain
a repository for all Federal decennial census information con-
cerning the State, and providing for the use and acceptance of this
information.
