licensee to perform such work, and further, that no such repairs or in-
stallations shall be made by any licensee until a permit has been issued by
Montgomery County, Maryland for such work.

Sec. 83-24. Applicants, Examinations, and Fees.

(a)    A person acting in his own behalf, or as an agent of a firm,
company, corporation or partnership, who desires to enter into, or engage
in the business of electrical contracting or certain limited types of electrical
installations or repairs, as provided for by this Article and coming within
the purview of the National Electrical Code and the Montgomery County
Electrical Code, may at any time make application to the director to be
examined and the director shall provide the applicant with the prescribed
forms.

(b)    Applicants shall possess and meet the following requirements
which are prerequisite to examination:

1.    An applicant for examination for an "electrical contractor's li-
cense" shall have been regularly and principally employed or engaged in
the profession or business of electrical construction, maintenance, installa-
tion, repair or design of all types of electrical equipment and apparatus,
all coming within the purview of and subject to all provisions of this
Article, for a period of not less than four (4) years.

2.    An applicant for an "electrical contractor's limited license" shall
pass the examination of the board as to his qualifications and knowledge
of the field or fields of the particular specialty in which he requests a
license. An applicant may be licensed hereunder for a particular type of
electrical installation or may be licensed for all types or as many types
of limited electrical installations as defined herein and for which he shall
be found qualified by the board. The type of limited licenses shall be set
forth in regulations of the board. Particular license classifications shall
include, without limiting, licenses for electrical connections and circuits
to air conditioning, elevators, gasoline pumps, automatic heating, lighting,
illuminating signs, and similar specialties, and electrical repair and main-
tenance work, in plants, factories, apartment complexes and any public
occupance employing maintenance forces, fire alarm systems and electronic
equipment employing the use of electrical current or connection. The
conditions of the license shall plainly appear on the license.

3.    An applicant for an electrical contractor's license or limited
license shall furnish such information as shall be required on an applica-
tion form approved by the board as to his character references, financial
responsibility, and his experience, training, and education in the pro-
fession or business of electrical construction or maintenance, installation,
repair or design of all types of electrical equipment and apparatus, or of
the particular type of installation for which a limited license is requested,
all coming within the purview of and subject to all provisions of this
Article.

(c)    It shall be the duty of the director upon receipt of application
to investigate the character, experience, training, and education of the
applicant and to provide such information to the board. Before the issuance
of a license, it shall be the further duty of the director to ascertain from
reliable sources the applicant's record of compliance with the laws of the
State of Maryland and Montgomery County. The board may request
further investigations, and conduct written or oral examination of the
applicant, at its discretion. On the basis of the aforegoing information,
