An Ordinance to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections
1-200 (b) and (d) of the Anne Arundel County Code (1967 Edition
and Supplements), Title 1, "Administration", Subtitle 2, "Personnel",
Article I, "Exempt Service" revising the percentage of salary in-
crease and base salary of certain County employees.
Section 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MARYLAND, That Section 1-200 (b) and
(d) of the Anne Arundel County Code (1967 Edition and Supplements),
Title 1, "Administration", Subtitle 2, "Personnel", Article I, "Exempt
Service" be, and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:
Section 1-200
(b) Base pay and increases. The base salary for each position shall
be as given in the salary schedule below. The appointing authority is
vested with discretion to award increases in salary which (1) shall not
exceed ten per cent of base salary at any one time, (2) shall not be awarded
more frequently than at six month intervals, (3) shall not exceed thirty
[twenty]-five per cent (35%) of the base salary in aggregate and, (4)
shall not be less than three per cent of base salary except when limited
by the maximum salary for the grade as provided herein.
(d) Salaries on initial appointments. Notwithstanding anything in
this section to the contrary, the appointing authority may in his discretion,
(1) make initial appointments at a salary greater than the base salary
but not exceeding [ten] fifteen per cent (15%) of the base salary for
the grade, or (2) make initial appointments at a salary ten per cent less
than the base salary for a period not to exceed one year, before expiration
of which time the appointing authority shall either increase the appointee's
salary to the base salary or the appointee shall automatically stand
dismissed.
