A BILL

Entitled

An Ordinance to add new Section 1-601 to the Anne Arundel
County Code (1967 Edition and Supplements), Title 1, "Administra-
tion," Subtitle 6, "Vandalism," to follow immediately after Section
1-600 thereof, creating a Distinguished Service Award, authorizing
the County Executive to designate NOMINATE recipients thereof,
SAID AWARD TO BE BESTOWED ONLY BY ORDINANCE, BE-
STOWING THE FIRST AWARD TO PATROLMAN WILLIAM J.
BOWERS, JR., and matters generally related thereto; and to repeal
the name of said subtitle and re-codify it under the new name of
"Subtitle 6, Rewards and Citations".

Section 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MARYLAND, That new Section 1-601 be
and it is hereby added to the Anne Arundel County Code (1967 Edition
and Supplements) under Title 1, "Administration", Subtitle 6, "Vandalism"
to follow immediately after Section 1-600 thereof, and to read as follows:

Section 1-601.

(a)    The County Executive may designate NOMINATE any mem-
ber of the EMPLOYEES OF Anne Arundel County Police Department
or Fire Department
to receive a Distinguished Service Award. To be
eligible for said award, the recipient shall have performed an act of
extraordinary heroism in direct line of duty involving unusual hazard to
life and limb resulting in a temporary or permanent disabling injury.
SAID AWARD MAY ONLY BE BESTOWED UPON THE PASSAGE
OF AN ORDINANCE BY THE ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY COUNCIL,
WHICH ORDINANCE SHALL ALSO MAKE PROVISION FOR THE
ANNUAL PAYMENT.

(b)    The recipient of a Distinguished Service Award shall receive
an annual payment of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) in addition to his
salary, which payment shall be made as of the date of the award, and
