(b) A current or future employee who elects to become covered
under this plan shall complete and deliver such forms as prescribed by
the Personnel Officer.

Section 1-220

(a)   A participant's credited service equals the sum of his credited
future service and his credited past service, determined as follows:

(1)   "Credited future service" means service rendered after July 1,
1969 by an employee of the County as a participant in this retirement
plan.

(2)   "Credited past service" means service credited to a participant
under the Employees' Retirement System of the State of Maryland.
A participant will not receive credited past service unless he elects to
become a participant of this retirement plan before August 31,1969.

(b)   Each employee who was an employee of Anne Arundel County
on January 1, 1949 who elected not to become a participant of the Em-
ployees' Retirement System of the State of Maryland at that time and
who has been an employee of Anne Arundel County since January 1,
1949, shall have the opportunity to obtain credit for any period of County
service which he does not have to his credit under the State retirement
system. Before receiving such credited service, the employee shall pay
into the Employees' Retirement Plan of Anne Arundel County the amount
of money actuarially determined necessary by the County to purchase
in full this credited service. This option for the purchase of such service
credits must be exercised by a participant within ninety (90) days fol-
lowing the effective date of this ordinance and payments made and com-
pleted by July 1, 1974.

(c)   Each employee may obtain credited service under the Employees'
Retirement Plan of Anne Arundel County for any employment with the
County on or after January 1, 1949 which has not previously been cred-
ited to him under this plan. Before receiving such credited service, the
employee shall pay into the Employees' Retirement Plan of Anne Arundel
County the amount of money actuarially determined necessary by the
County to purchase in full this credited service. Payments for such
credited service must be completed within five (5) years after the date
the employee elects to make the purchase.

(d)   Any person who is a participant of the Anne Arundel County
Police and Fire Service Retirement Plan will transfer his membership
to the Employees Retirement Plan of Anne Arundel County if he accepts
a position in the classified service covered by this Retirement Plan. The
Personnel Officer shall cause to be transferred to the Employees' Retirement
Plan of Anne Arundel County the amount determined actuarially neces-
sary by the County to purchase in full this credited service.

(e)   Any participant of this Plan who becomes engaged in an oc-
cupation covered by the Police and Fire Service Retirement Plan of Anne
Arundel County shall transfer his membership to the Police and Fire
Service Retirement plan. The Personnel Officer shall cause such partici-
pant's contributions, with credited interest and the County's contributions
with credited interest to be transferred to the Police and Fire Service
Retirement Plan.

Section 1-221

(a) Each participant who retires on or after his normal retirement
date shall be entitled to receive, commencing on the first day of the
month coinciding with or next following his date of retirement, an annual
